Hand-crafted Furniture
The Workshop of Charles Neil
From High Country to Contemporary to Traditional Formal Pieces, we are certain you will be glad to know that the high quality of craftsmanship of yesterday is thriving today.
Neil is a juried member of the Virginia Artisan's Association, his work has appeared in a number of local and regional publications. His work was included in The Custom Source Book - A Guide to 125 Craftsmen, written by Kerry Pierce and published by The Taunton Press, publishers of Fine Woodworking Magazine. This book focuses on the fine furniture-makers throughout the United States and Canada. Neil was named to the Early American Life Magazine's Directory of Traditional American Craftsmen when his work was submitted in 2002, 2003 and 2004. The directory is compiled from artist's submissions and due to the demand of Charles Neil's furniture, submissions have not been made since 2004. Most recently he was featured in the October 2006 The Craft Report a national magazine focusing on artisans and their work.
Candle Box - $295
These period correct pieces by Charles Neil reflect his unerring attention to detail and desire to perfectly replicate these centuries old pieces. Used by early American settlers to store their tallow and protect this precious resource from the ever present rodents, those of us in the 21st Century will enjoy these works of art in our homes to far greater benefit. Let your imagine run...use as a stand alone piece of art; a repository for letters or those problematic remote controls...and the list goes on. These are currently available in a wide variety of woods to include: cherry, curly cherry and tiger maple. These pieces may be special ordered should other woods be desired.
Keeping Chest - $850
I first was exposed to Charles Neil's keeping chests in the year 2000. Charles donated a chest in support of a fund raiser for the local public television station in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The bidding closed with a final price of $1,800.00. As you will see, today's pricing reflects an incredible value and we have these chests available in cherry and maple. As with all of Charles Neil's works, each is a piece of art...with the added benefit of a functional role in your home or office.
I am also honored to carry several larger pieces from Charles Neil. These include a tiger maple corner cabinet; cherry and walnut blanket chests; tiger maple sugar chest, walnut biscuit table, cherry plantation desk and two tiger maple quilt racks. I would be pleased to discuss these in more detail with interested parties. Call for details.
